Drake Rymsha scored twice and rookie goaltender Blair Coffin recorded his first OHL win as the Sarnia Sting beat the Colts in Barrie 5-2 Saturday night.
With the win the Sting salvaged a victory in the final game of a three game northern road swing that saw them surrender a total of 14 goals in losses in North Bay and Sudbury. Sarnia hangs onto third place in the OHL West Division with 54 points.
Rymsha scored the first of his two first period goals at 8:36 with Jordan Kyrou assisting. The Sting went up 2-0 just 34 seconds later when Troy Lajeunesse scored his 18th goal of the season. The Colts cut the Sarnia lead in half at 11:36 on a goal from Roy Radke, but the Sting went up by two before the first intermission thanks to Rymsha's second goal of the period. That would be his 21st of the year.
Kyle Heitzner got a goal back for Barrie before the three-minute mark of the second period, his third goal of the season, but Sarnia put itself up by two goals again, 4-2, on Sean Josling's marker at 4:27 in the frame.
The Sting got some insurance in the third period on a goal from Franco Sproviero.
Coffin made 31 saves on 33 shots in just his third OHL start. The 16-year-old Dunnville, Ont., native was activated for the Sting's road trip after starting goaltender Justin Fazio was injured last week. Overage defenceman, captain Kevin Spinozzi served the third game of a ten game suspension for a head check in last Sunday's game against Saginaw.
