City Seeks Election Workers

The City of Sarnia is looking to hire roughly 65 temporary workers for the upcoming municipal election.

Deputy Clerk James Jenkins says applications for the three different positions are now being accepted on the city's website.

"We'll have greeters who will greet electors upon their arrival at voter help centres, we'll have election officials who will be responsible for the voter help centre. We'll also have election assistants who will assist the officials with things like revisions to the voters' list, and we'll also have some assistants who will help voters use electronic devices to vote."

This is the first municipal election that has moved entirely to electronic voting.

Jenkins says the change has reduced the number of workers the city needs to hire.

"In the past, we had hired roughly 200 workers, but we expect based on other municipalities of our size that have transitioned into internet and telephone voting, that we'll have quite a few members of the public voting at home," says Jenkins.

The city has allocated between $20,000 and $25,000 for the workers.

The voting period begins October 11 and ends on October 22.
