Offering brands such as Crop Tour, Farmer's Tan, and Tractor on the Wall, Sarnia-Lambton's second craft brewery is located on Hwy. 21 about five miles south of Forest.
Jim Soetemans and Joe Donkers decided to take the plunge when the Donkers retired from the pig farming business and friends told them they liked Jim and Joe's experiments with home-made beer.
Donkers says Stonepicker Brewing Company is made from all local products. They're buying hops from area farmers.
"We're using some of about two tons of barley I malted into malt last winter," says Donkers. "The water comes from a well about a hundred feet under the brewery."
Donkers says they've invested about $1-million in Stonepicker Breweries which has a tasting room and outdoor patio.
"We have about six that we think people will like to try and buy," he says. "We'll have 12 taps in our brewery. Six will be main line beers and six will be experimental. We'll continue to brew other types of beer, put them on tap, and if they outperform our main line beers, they'll probably replace them."
Off-site sales will be available and Donkers says they'll be selling to local bars and restaurants.
Stonepickers opens Thursday, August 30 at 11am. As a sidebar, Joe's wife Mary and Jim's wife Laura, are first cousins.
