United Way campaign nearing the halfway mark

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way is hoping to hit the 50 per cent mark by the end of this week.

Executive Director Dave Brown said they've raised $950,000 so far, or 47.5 per cent of the $2 million goal.

Brown said even though they're trailing last years campaign, he's hopeful things will spike very soon.

"I think we're going to start seeing things picking up fairly soon because all of the industrial campaigns will be running by the middle part of this week," said Brown. "So, once we start getting larger companies reporting with their matching corporate gifts, we're hopeful that in the next two or three weeks we should see it spike up."

Brown said they're still hoping for a sellout for the Locally Lambton Dinner on October 27 at the Lambton College Event Centre. There are less than 70 tickets available through the East Street office.

Donations can also be made at a new United Way kiosk, located until the end of the month at Sarnia's Coffee Lodge at Finch Drive and Wellington Street.

The United Way helps fund 19 local agencies providing 35 programs and services to the community.
