Brainstorming snow removal solutions

Lambton Public Health and the City of Sarnia want to develop a plan to match residents with volunteers willing to clear snow and ice from their walkways and driveways.

Health Promoter Jennifer Graham said snow removal was identified as a priority in Sarnia's age-friendly action plan.

"Having a snow-ridden driveway can be a barrier for seniors to leave their homes, but also it can be something that can preclude them from receiving services or support within their own homes, for example, if they had home care," said Graham.

She said she is inviting community members to a brainstorming session on Wednesday to help them come up with a solution.

"We'll be looking at what opportunities exist, capacity of community members, their interest," said Graham.

Graham is encouraging service clubs, retirees, church club members or any other volunteer associations to come and share ideas.

The event on October 24 at the Sarnia Arena Kiwanis Room is being held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
