World class curling coming to Sarnia

Some of the best male curlers from across North America are in Sarnia this week for the Huron Reprographics Oil Heritage Classic.

The World Curling Tour event, taking place at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club (SGCC), features 24 teams playing in a triple knockout format.

Organizer Ian Parker said there's a $19,000 purse, with $5,300 going to the winners.

He said our club is an outstanding facility and a "hidden gem".

"This event has really showcased the facility at Sarnia Golf and Curling Club. Our ice maker is among the best in Canada, and our facility is definitely in the top five in Ontario," said Parker. "Everyone is really pleased with the ice conditions and just the facility as a whole. It's a really nice place."

There are three Sarnia-based rinks taking part, led by skips Heath McCormick, Mark Bice, and Tanner Nathan.

Other notable names include Dayna Deruelle, Martin Ferland, and Pat Ferris.

Action gets underway on Thursday night at 8:30pm, and continues all day Friday and Saturday.

The playoffs start at 9am Sunday, and the final is scheduled for 3:30pm. Admission is free for spectators all weekend.
