Sarnia's going to the dogs.
Bylaw Enforcement Supervisor Adam MacDonald said enforcement officers have wrapped up the dog census that's taken every three to four years.
"We ran the dog census from mid-July until the end of September and over the course of the census we brought in 654 new tags," said MacDonald.
Licensing lets people know your animal has up-to-date rabies vaccinations and improves the chances of it being returned if he goes missing.
"For the most part, everyone was very cooperative. There were a few fines issued over the interactions over the few months but for the most part, everything went ok," said MacDonald
A license is $62 for an altered dog and it’s $110 if it's not fixed.
There are currently 4,048 licensed dogs in Sarnia.
The city pulled in about $180,000 from dog licensing this year, most of which pays for the contracting out of animal control to the Humane Society.
