The Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce has been recognized for helping international students find local employment.
MPP Bob Bailey presented the chamber with a plaque in recognition of the International Student Retention Project.
The initiative, funded by a Trillium Foundation grant of $19,500, aims to identify employment barriers for both international students and local businesses.
Project Coordinator Karen Minty said the project will help diversify the local workplace.
"We are looking to the challenges these students face, as well as some opportunities for them. We're also looking at the businesses who say that they have trouble finding qualified candidates-- we think we can help them with the slew of international students that we have every year," said Minty. "We hope this project helps stimulate growth-- we'd love to bring in fresh faces and keep those faces here in Sarnia to spur the economy."
Minty said the chamber is currently writing a report to help international students find employment and help local businesses hire locally.
