Imperial says it will issue a report on the April 2 tower collapse at its Sarnia refinery before the June 30 deadline imposed by Ontario's environment ministry.
Ministry spokesman Gary Wheeler said, as part of the follow-up to the incident, ministry staff have asked the company to provide additional information by the end of June.
"The requested information includes factors that contributed to the incident, root cause of the collapse, corrective actions identified by the company's investigation, and timeline for implementation of each action," said Wheeler in an email to BlackburnNews.com. "Ministry staff will carefully review the information as soon as we receive it, and determine whether any additional actions are required."
Wheeler also said it's important to remember that there were no uncontrolled releases or environmental issues associated with the collapse of the 150-foot fuel processing tower, just off Vidal Street South.
Imperial's Public & Government Affairs Manager Kristina Zimmer said the company has been cooperative with regulators including the ministry of the environment throughout the investigation.
"We will continue that spirit of cooperation when we share our report in advance of the requested timeframe," Zimmer said in an email.
Luckily there were no injuries in the collapse of the tower that was being prepared for planned maintenance at the time and did not contain petroleum products.
