United Way campaign makes little gain

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign slowed a bit this past week.

Executive Director Dave Brown said they've raised $828,000 or 43.5 per cent of the $1.9 million target. He said that's slightly behind last year's pace.

"It's still quite early in the campaign, but it's noteworthy, for sure. We're starting to worry a little bit because we missed our goal last year, but we're still hopeful."

Brown said Saturday's sold-out Locally Lambton Dinner was a big hit. The annual event raised $12,000 for the campaign.

Brown said he's optimistic the campaign will pick up going forward.

"The end of next week is the halfway mark of the campaign time-wise, so we certainly want to be above 50 per cent at that point. Depending on what donations come in over the next little, how some of the campaigns that are running wrap-up, such as the Shell campaign, Imperial is getting close to the end, we're hopeful we'll see some movement."

The United Way helps fund 18 local agencies providing 36 community programs and services.
