Contractor misses GLSS deadline

Another deadline has been missed as construction continues at Great Lakes Secondary School.

The Lambton Kent District School Board had asked the contractor, Jasper Construction Corporation, to have the music rooms and Indigenous room completed by February 3, 2020 in time for the start of the second semester.

In an e-mail to Blackburn News, the public school board said, unfortunately, the work has not yet been completed, but they continue to work with the contractor to move the project forward as quickly as possible.

During a sit down with the contractor in early January, board officials also asked that the auditorium be turned over for occupancy by March 23.

It's unknown if that part of the project is on schedule. Calls to Jasper Construction Corporation have not been returned.

It was hoped work on the oft-delayed addition at the Murphy Road site, the former St. Clair Secondary School, would be done by Christmas. Construction of the estimated $25 million project started in late 2017.
