Staff from the City of Windsor and the County of Essex have been processing donations made to help healthcare staff across the region, and say both large and small are appreciated.
So far, over 90 organizations and individuals have donated everything from a single box of gloves to more than 14,000 face masks from one group.
Donations include 1,500 N-95 respirator masks, 31,000 surgical face masks, 29,000 disposable gloves, and nearly 100 pairs of goggles or face shields.
"I knew when we launched this call to action that folks in our community would rise to the occasion," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. "The donation centre remains open, and I encourage everyone who can, to consider making a contribution to support our frontline healthcare workers."
The donation centre is at the WFCU Centre on McHugh Street in Windsor. Donors are asked to pull up to the Community Rink doors and wait for staff to direct them after a screening process. It is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the foreseeable future.
The equipment will be used in area hospitals, by paramedics, police officers, firefighters, in long-term care homes, and by correctional services workers.
