Police honour Lambton College students for stopping assault

The Sarnia Police Service has commended five Lambton College students for stopping a violent assault on campus.

Chief's coins were presented by Norm Hansen to Winston Chan, Brielle McInnis, Dylan Climie, Kate Flaningan, and Quinton Pluzak.

Chief Hansen said the students were recognized for their bravery and swift thinking.

"Three young men intervened and held the accused, while one of the ladies administered first aid and the fifth person called 9-1-1," said Hansen. "It was a picture-perfect response. Nobody let anyone get hurt. The accused person wasn't hurt. The three young men didn't go overboard, they just held him for us, and we thought that needed recognition."

Chief Hansen said the students saved the victim, who had been knocked unconscious from a serious injury.

Constable John Sottosanti said they don't recommend the public take matters into their own hands, but in this case, the students took the proper steps to ensure the victim's and their own safety.
