In a mock election, students across the country voted for a change in federal leadership.
According to CIVIX, the non-partisan charity that runs the Student Vote Canada program with Elections Canada, more than 900,000 students cast a ballot.
Students elected a minority Conservative government with 165 seats and 36.4 per cent of the popular vote, with the Liberal Party forming the official opposition with 145 seats and 31.7 per cent of the vote.
The New Democrats just managed to hold onto official party status securing only 13 seats in the mock vote.
Students at 34 schools in the Sarnia-Lambton-Bkejwanong riding participated in the mock election.
Local students elected incumbent Conservative candidate Marilyn Gladu with 1,240 votes.
Liberal Candidate George Vandenberg received 626 votes, followed by NDP Candidate Lo-Anne Chan's 579 votes.
Schools across Chatham-Kent and Sarnia have been participating in Student Vote since 2004 for federal elections and since 2003 for provincial elections.
The program allows students to learn about democracy and elections in a hands-on way. They get the opportunity to research the parties and platforms and debate before casting ballots for the official candidates running in their school's electoral district.
