Fry truck open at Petrolia's Bridgeview Park

Warmer temperature this weekend may have you craving French fries, and it looks like you have some options.

Town of Petrolia Director Facilities and Community Services Dave Menzies said they've worked out the kinks to allow the fry truck to reopen at Bridgeview Park Friday.

"We're able to get the fry truck back in place," said Menzies. "The private contractor is under a bylaw with the town to operate the French fry truck, so we've worked through all the procedures. [It's an] essential service as food. So, most of the park is barricaded off. People can do phone orders and curbside pickup. Grab the food and leave the park."

He said strict guidelines must be followed.

"Social distancing, one person at the window at a time, stay in your car and in our case he's calling you by either your cell or your vehicle."

Menzies said the park itself remains closed due to provincial COVID-19 restrictions.

No picnic tables are out and the washrooms will remain closed.

He said the town continues to work with the St. Clair Conservation Authority on a wetlands project in Bridgeview Park South.

To manage existing flooding concerns, additional wetlands are being built to collect stormwater overflow and filter the water before it enters Bear Creek.

In Point Edward, Councillor Larry Gordon says the fry trucks at Waterfront Park and on the Blue Water Bridge property immediately under the span remain closed.  He said both have been unable to operate since barricades went up closing the parking lots.

However, Gordon said Alberts Fries, located on Michigan Avenue at Livingston Street, reopened last week after introducing safety measures for patrons and staff.
