New doctor joining Central Lambton Family Health Team

Another family physician is setting up practice in Petrolia.

The Central Lambton Family Health Team (CLFHT) said Dr. Alex Leonard is coming on board effective August 1.

He graduated from Western University with a Medical Sciences degree in physiology, and has worked at Bluewater Health's emergency department for the past year.

Executive Director Sarah Milner said Dr. Leonard was a medical resident with the group for two years, so they're familiar with what he brings to the table.

"We have seen him in practice and how knowledgeable he is and what an excellent bedside manner he has with people," said Milner. "We feel that Dr. Leonard joining us will help to expand our ability to take on new patients, especially those out in the county and those without any provider."

Milner said Dr. Leonard will take on some patients from Dr. Susan Mather who is retiring this summer.

The team has now recruited five doctors to the community in the past five years.

Dr. Leonard is a longtime Wallaceburg resident where he lives with his wife Michelle.

Those interested in becoming a patient are asked to call the Family Health Team office at 519-882-2500 for more information.
