Registered practical nurses at Sarnia's Victorian Order of Nurses have ratified a new deal after a lengthy strike.
The members of LiUNA Local 3000 walked off the job May 1.
Union representative Ken Sharpe said they were successful in achieving the majority of their goals and returned to work Monday.
"After 60-plus days out on the picket line, they were anxious to get back and see their clients," said Sharpe. "They pick the work they do because they care for people, and it's heartbreaking for them to be standing outside while their clients are going unseen."
Sharpe said some nurses left the VON during the strike.
"It started out as 24 nurses, we suspect that number has dwindled a little bit, we're between 15 and 20 now."
The two year deal was ratified Friday after the nurses had been without a contract since March 2019.
Details of the new contract were not shared.
Sharpe said since the new two-year deal had already expired, bargaining had already commenced again.
