Wallaceburg business owner to represent PPC in LKM

A Wallaceburg small business owner will represent the People's Party of Canada in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex in the upcoming federal election.

Kevin Mitchell was named the PPC candidate for the riding earlier this month.

Mitchell, 39, ran for the Conservative federal nomination in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex in 2019.  He told Blackburn News that he doesn't like the current direction of the Tories after supporting the party for the better part of the past 10, 15 years.

"I think Erin O'Toole is a terrible choice to try to lead this country, and the O'Toole Conservatives and the Trudeau Liberals, I really can't differentiate too much between the two," he said. "Both favour lockdowns, both favour the removal and the stripping away of our individual rights and freedoms. I really cannot believe the Conservatives support the carbon tax and following the Paris Accord. As a conservative with conservative principles, as a believer in small government and fiscal responsibility, I felt like there's really no choice for me other than the PPC in Canada."

Mitchell believes there's a lot of support for the PPC because the party is offering change, and said that if Canadians keep on doing the same things, the country is going to keep on getting the same results.

Mitchell said he's running as a member of the PPC for his three sons and to support PPC leader, Maxime Bernier.

"I'm turning 40 this year and for the first time in my life, I'm legitimately worried about the direction of our country, and I feel that we desperately need a leader that can bring about substantial change in the direction of our country," he said. "I feel that Maxime Bernier's the absolute best leader of a political party that Canada's had in at least the last 50 years, maybe ever, and I want to do everything I can to support him."

Mitchell is the owner of DIY Pallets Ltd. and a former teacher.

Mitchell will be up against Conservative incumbent Lianne Rood, Liberal candidate Dr. Sudit Ranade, the Green Party’s Jeremy Hull and NDP candidate Chief Jason Henry.
