Spike belt used to arrest St. Thomas driver in Grand Bend

A large amount of suspected cocaine, fentanyl, and heroin has been seized after OPP stopped a vehicle in Grand Bend by using a spike belt.

Middlesex OPP tried to stop a vehicle after complaints were made about an erratic driver on Monday at around 7:50 p.m.

The driver allegedly failed to stop for police. Witnesses then notified OPP that the suspected vehicle had entered Grand Bend.

Lambton OPP deployed a spike belt and arranged their vehicles to prevent the driver from taking off. The driver allegedly struck the police cruisers in an effort to flee the scene.

A 30-year-old woman from St. Thomas was arrested.

OPP said a large amount of drugs were allegedly found inside the vehicle, which was reported stolen from the London area.

Miranda Lewanick was charged with the following:

- Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking (four counts)

- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

- Possession of a schedule 1 substance

- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

- Operation while impaired

- Flight from peace officer

- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

- Assault a peace officer with a weapon

- Failure to comply with undertaking (two counts)

Lewanick was being held in custody pending a bail hearing. Charges against the accused have not been proven in court.
