Sarnia police nab three impaired drivers over weekend

Sarnia police laid three impaired driving charges over the weekend, including an incident where a driver nearly struck an oncoming vehicle on Christina Street.

At around 6:15 a.m. Saturday, police were called about a driver drifting from side to side in the westbound lanes of Highway 402. The vehicle exited the highway at Christina Street, continued south and began to drift into oncoming traffic, nearly striking a vehicle.

Officers initiated a traffic stop and arrested the driver. A 38-year-old woman was later charged with impaired by drugs.

The night before, at around 11:20 p.m., police were called about a vehicle that struck a parked car on Davis Street, causing major damage to both vehicles.

Police said the suspect, a 53-year-old Sarnia man, underwent testing with an Intoxilyzer and was found to be over the legal limit. He was charged with impaired by alcohol and having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.

The third impaired driving charge was laid early Monday morning after an officer spotted a vehicle cutting across lanes of traffic on Vidal Street.

Police pulled over the vehicle after it allegedly ran a stop sign in the area of Maria Street and College Avenue. The driver had no current driver’s licence and was wanted on an outstanding warrant related to impaired operation of a conveyance.

The accused then failed a roadside screening test and was arrested. He later failed an Intoxilyzer test as well.

A 40-year-old Sarnia man faces one count of impaired by alcohol and one count of having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
