History buffs from different areas can now access digital artifacts from Lambton international oil drillers through a new website.
It was recently launched by The Oil Museum of Canada to showcase Lambton County's contributions to the oil industry.
More than 800 drillers from Lambton provided drilling expertise and equipment to nearly 90 countries from the mid-1870s to the mid-1940s.
Curator and Supervisor Erin Dee-Richard said the website includes photographs, souvenirs, and personal stories told by family members.
"The original goal was to become a repository of the information that we had about the Lambton drillers who went overseas," said Dee-Richard. "We have some interesting items in our collection that don't always get a chance to shine on exhibit because of their condition or limited space. This way, people can explore the website and really get to see these collections."
More than 600 artifacts were photographed or digitized for the website.
The new website is also available in both English and French.
The project was partially funded by Digital Museums Canada, formerly known as Virtual Museums Canada.
