Bradley talks housing, infrastructure and Chris Hadfield Airport with CHOK

Mike Bradley said he's given everything he has to the city, and he wants to continue to do so.

The incumbent Sarnia mayor, during 'A Chat with the Candidates' with Stephanie Chaves on CHOK Monday, said that priorities change over the years, but his basic priority has always been the physical and human infrastructure of the city.

"I learned a long time ago that it's really important to stick to the basics," said Bradley. "To make sure that the city's functioning, that you have a police and fire department that are functional and providing public safety. That the parks and all the other things that come with that are functional."

Bradley said other key priorities include transportation and infrastructure improvements in the Coronation Park area.

Listeners wanted to see how the city could address a number of issues including a rise in homelessness. He said there needs to be much more dialogue between city staff and the County of Lambton, which handles the funding allocated to address homelessness.

"The visibility of those who are homeless is much higher today," said Bradley. "It's more widespread throughout the community, where it often used to be concentrated in certain segments of the city. So, when it's all said and done, it keeps on coming back to the same issue, it's housing. Housing, that's what it's all about and giving people shelter."

He said issues come and go, but it's important for a councillor to have good judgement and integrity.

"I don't care if you're on the left, or on the right, you're in the middle, I do care about your judgement," said Bradley. "The chapter for any candidate is really simple, the book, who you are, what you've done, and what you'd like to do. I do notice some of the candidates are acting like the individual candidate has much more power, [saying] 'I'm going to do this, this and this.' You might note in all my stuff over the years, it's been, 'I will work to do my best to achieve this.'"

Monday morning's chat is available online at CHOK.com. Stephanie Chaves' discussion with Nathan Colquhoun, who is also running for mayor, is also posted there.
