Local COVID-19 death toll climbs to 164

There has been another COVID-19 related death in Sarnia-Lambton.

In its weekly update, Lambton Public Health reported the death toll has increased to 164. The health unit said the individual who died in hospital was in their 70s.

The health unit reported 39 new lab confirmed cases in the last week, down from 65 reported last Wednesday, and the daily average number of cases has dropped to 7 from 12.

Outbreaks have been declared in four area long-term care and retirement homes.

There are fewer than five COVID-positive patients at Bluewater Health.

Lambton Public Health will be closed over the holidays on December 23, 26, 27, 30, and January 2.
