Two more COVID-19 deaths in Sarnia-Lambton

The local COVID-19 death toll has risen to 166.

Lambton Public Health reported two more deaths linked to the virus in its weekly update Wednesday. Both individuals were in their 80s. The health unit said one died in hospital, the other at a long-term care facility.

Lambton Public Health reported 87 new lab confirmed cases, and the daily average number of cases has doubled from 6 to 12.

The health unit said since eligibility testing in Ontario is limited to those in contact with high-risk settings, the latest numbers are an under-estimate of the true number of area residents with the virus.

There are three active outbreaks, all of them are at long-term care and retirement homes in Petrolia.

At Bluewater Health, there are eight COVID-positive patients.
