A public meeting will be held next week as the Township of Enniskillen considers proposed official plan and zoning by-law amendments related to cannabis cultivation facilities.
The meeting will take place on Monday, January 16, at 7 p.m. at the township's municipal office, located at the corner of Rokeby Line and Oil Heritage Road.
"The official plan amendment and the zoning amendment apply to the entire township, and as a consequence it would impact a new operation occurring within the township or expansion of an existing operation within the township," said Administrator-Clerk Duncan McTavish.
Although the proposed plan and amendments would impose policies and standards related to the establishment of any future cannabis developments, McTavish said he is unaware of any proposals for new operations.
As stated in the reports, cannabis operations would need to be kept in fully enclosed buildings and abide by site regulations in regards to parking spaces and maintain a certain distance from sensitive areas, such as residential developments. Operators would also need to submit a light mitigation plan and submit to studies related to traffic impact, noise, and air quality.
A retail store would will not be permitted as an accessory use, read the zoning by-law amendment.
Residents can review the draft zoning by-law and proposed official plan on the township's website.
Questions related to the reports and upcoming public meeting can be submitted online or by contacting the township's office.
