Cinderella Project helps youth have a magical prom

A popular program that provides graduation, prom dresses, shoes and accessories to girls in need, is back again this year.

Sarnia-Lambton Rebound's Cinderella Project provides them free of charge to local students who are unable to purchase their own attire.

Program Coordinator Nicole McLean said the goal is to help them look and feel great while celebrating their accomplishments.

"Usually we have about 120 youth who access our boutique every year but, that's just an average, it depends on the year," said McLean. "We do have a plethora of dresses that have been donated over the years that we do store and bring out. So, when the youth are coming in to look for a dress, we're going to have about 1,400 dresses for them to go through."

Rebound is holding a Dress Drive from March 6 to 11.

Formal attire, accessories, and/or shoes can be dropped off at the site, at 10 Lorne Crescent, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Donations can also be brought to Lambton Mall on Friday, March 10 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., and on Saturday, March 11 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Rebound will distribute the dresses and accessories during their scheduled Boutique Days.

Those are being held at Lambton Mall from April 12 to 16.

The hours of shopping include Wednesday to Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

McLean said they're still looking for some local businesses to help out with donations.

"We're looking for things like donations of up-dos for the youth to have their hair done, nails, we've had a couple of photographers donate their time to take the youth's pictures on their big days. So, we're still looking for some community partners in that respect."

The Cinderella Story of Sarnia-Lambton was founded by Debbie Anderson back in 2009, and Sarnia-Lambton Rebound took control of the initiative in 2018.

Since its inception, the program has provided dresses for hundreds of girls.
