Block Party lineup announced

The Bluewater Health Foundation is appealing to a younger demographic with the lineup for this year's Block Party.

The foundation announced details of the Block Party Wednesday afternoon at Refined Fool Brewing Co. The two-night event will be held on Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9 at Centennial Park's Suncor Agora.

Executive Director Kathy Alexander said Friday's concert will be a throwback to the 90s with tickets selling for $20 each.

"So a local band [Townhall Revival] will be the opener and then we have Jagged, which I'm sure people might guess is an Alanis Morissette cover band, Pearl Jamming, and Grace, 2 (a Tragically Hip cover band) will be the headliners for the Friday night concert."

Saturday's concert will also feature a local opener.

"Bad Men Association will be opening for The Beaches and July Talk and we are so excited to have these double Juno-winning Canadian bands coming to Sarnia-Lambton in support of the Block Party this year!"

Alexander said the foundation partnered with Lambton College this year, and Carpenter’s Local 1256 will be the title sponsor again.

After last year's Block Party with The Trews and Walk Off The Earth, the foundation wanted to continue to feature Canadian bands.

"We also think that July Talk and The Beaches are really appealing, they [have a] very different and unique sound," said Alexander. "We really hope that people will come out in support of them, but also in support of a very, very important cause."

Money raised through the event will go toward mental health and addiction programs at Bluewater Health.

"We're really proud that a bulk of the proceeds from previous block parties actually built a beautiful enclosed patio space off of the Inpatient Unit several years ago through Dan Edwards' partnership with us on the Block Party," said Alexander.

Since 2016, the Block Party has raised over $160,000.

Alexander said their "ambitious" goal this year is to raise $100,000.

Tickets are currently available at Revelree.ca.
