The Town of Plympton-Wyoming wants to know what people think about regulating short term rentals (STRs).
Mayor Gary Atkinson said they've launched a survey to get input on whether or not the community is in favour of the plan.
"We've had this on the table for over a year now," said Atkinson. "We've had some concerns with our short term rentals. We haven't really had a policy in place. What we're looking at doing is putting a policy in place that's going to be fair, not only to the renters, but to the residents that live around it as well as the owners of the property."
Atkinson said the survey is available for residents, visitors, business owners, and short-term rental users and operators.
It asks things like whether someone has used or operates an STR, what they think of having them in their neighbourhood, and if they believe it hurts their property value.
"We're also going to be doing some community meetings to get people's feedback," he said. "This has been a concern for some time now. We had hoped to have a bylaw in place for this year but we want to make sure we get it right. There's no use in rushing something and then having to make adjustments or changes.
Atkinson estimates there are at least 30 STRs in Plympton-Wyoming, mostly along Lake Huron.
The deadline to complete the survey is May 31st.

Meanwhile, the City of Sarnia passed a bylaw to regulate STRs in 2020.
Similar legislation came into effect in Lambton Shores on February 1 of this year.
