Sarnia's Imperial City Brew House is celebrating some recent success on the national stage.
The brewery won a gold medal for their Chocolate Milk Peanut Butter Porter at the Canadian Craft Brewing Awards in Halifax this past weekend.
Over 300 breweries competed for medals in 59 categories.
Imperial City Brew House Co-Director and Brewer Mike Barker said he and the crew are ecstatic to be honoured for their hard work.
"We were humbled to be recognized at the ceremony this year," said Barker. "It just represents the passion and dedication that we have for our industry, and the community, and the many people who have touched our lives. I'd also like to express my sincere thanks to the entire Imperial City Brew House team as well."
Barker said the beer has a great flavour.
"Oftentimes with stouts and porters, people will flavour those beers," he said. "This particular gold medal was won in the flavoured porter or stout category. It mimics your chocolate and peanut butter candy bars and things like that. It remarkably resembles that flavour."
Barker said the award was granted based on judging prior to the event, and they beat out 67 other beers in the stout category.
He said it's the first time Imperial City has won a national medal. They also captured a gold at the Alberta Beverage Awards in 2021 in the cream ale category for the Chris Hadfield-inspired "Goodbye Gravity".
Barker is now looking forward to the Ontario Brewing Awards, coming up this November.
The Chocolate Milk Peanut Butter Porter is available now at the brewery, at 1330 Exmouth Street, and will be making its way to the LCBO shelves in the fall.
