Students to return to Brooke Central Public School

All Brooke Central Public School students will be able to return to the building this September.

Some students were relocated to other schools after structural concerns were raised last year.

Lambton Kent District School Board Superintendent of Business Operations Brian McKay said classrooms were actually moved back to Brooke Central during the summer in anticipation of the new school year.

"The initial work in the older sections of the school is complete. We're now focused on the newer portion, that includes the gymnasium, the daycare, and the portion where the [Grades] 7/8 students remained," he said. "The whole school will be completed by September and then the roofing project, because we've been focusing on the structural reinforcing, the roofing project then will take place in the following half of the year."

As previously stated, the scope of the project changed due to new code requirements. Sections of the school were initially built in the 1960s and the newer portion of the school was built in 2007.

McKay said it'll be nice for all students to be back in the same building this fall.
