Loonies for Lunches to help stock school snacks at the Inn

Keep your change handy this week. It's the 18th annual Loonies for Lunches fundraising campaign.

From August 28 to September 10, customers visiting local McDonald's restaurants will be asked for a $1 donation for the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

Executive Director Myles Vanni said last year, the initiative raised $8,000.

"They ask customers at the till to maybe donate a loonie or a toonie and those funds raised help ensure the food bank stocked with lunch snacks for kids," said Vanni.

He said in the fundraiser's 18 years, over $110,000 has been raised, helping the over 950 children that utilize the food bank each month.

“Thanks to the support and generosity of the Lambton community we’re able to help so many local children in need,” said Colleen Buckley, McDonald’s Franchisee in Sarnia and Petrolia. “We’re excited for this year’s ‘Loonies for Lunches’ campaign to raise as much money as possible for these deserving children.”

McDonalds and the Inn are also teaming up for a 'kids fun day' on Saturday, September 2, at the Exmouth Street restaurant. Kids will be able to visit with Sarnia Legionnaires players from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. as well as enjoy some inflatable games and other activities.

Donations can also be made online through the Inn of the Good Shepherd's website www.theinnsarnia.ca
