A man who pleaded guilty to four criminal offences this past summer has voluntarily resigned from the Sarnia Police Service (SPS).
Officials announced the irrevocable resignation of Jeremy Wilde on Friday.
Wilde was initially suspended with pay since October 11, 2022, however, during this time, he was charged by Lambton OPP with several off-duty criminal offences.
As specified in a media release, the charges were "not related to his employment as a police officer."
An internal SPS investigation into the incidents was initiated.
"The PSA (Police Services Act) requires that a hearing process occur prior to any penalty that may impact an officer’s employment status," read the media release. "His first appearance on these matters was held on March 22, 2023. The process was then paused pending the outcome of the off-duty criminal matters."
Wilde pleaded guilty to four charges on July 26.
He was scheduled to have another PSA hearing on October 1. However, since Wilde has resigned and is no longer a police officer, all PSA "charges were stayed due to a loss of jurisdiction."

"Our organization remains committed to addressing disciplinary matters in an expedient and appropriate manner, within the permitted framework of the Police Services Act.”
