City staff are hoping to gain more input from the community before the end of the year about the Downtown Sarnia and Mitton Village Neighbourhood Revitalization Project.
An online survey was launched on October 20, about one month after the city announced efforts to enhance and improve public spaces in both areas.
Director of Economic Development Kelly Provost said since then, about 75 responses have been received. The survey is expected to remain open until early 2024.
"We're happy with the results that we've received thus far but we're really hoping for a great response over the coming months," Provost said.
There are two separate surveys available, consisting of nine to 12 multiple choice and short answer questions.
"From business owners, we're really wanting to know about their experience operating a business in both of those areas, what improvements they'd like to see, and what they feel the city can do to support them further," she said. "Then, from residents, visitors or others... we want to know about where they go, what they do, what improvements maybe they'd like to see, and how often they're shopping local."
Provost said once the survey is completed, the feedback received will be analyzed to shape short-term and long-term strategies for revitalization.
"I don't have an exact timeline on how long it might take us to analyze, I guess that kind of depends on the response that we might receive," she said. "But when we do have those results, we intend on sharing a summary of those results on our website."
The revitalization project was funded in part by a provincial grant of $116,000, as announced in September.
