Saturday has been dubbed "Women's Hockey Day in Lambton County".
Before the matchup, fans are invited to come watch select u7 to u18 teams from the Sarnia Lady Sting, Mooretown Lady Flags, and Lambton Attack.
The games will take place on Rink Two at Progressive Auto Sales Arena from 12:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and from 12:10 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Rink One. There are also some grassroots initiatives that will take place leading up to the big game.
Over 150 local women's players will have the chance to take part in a Hockey Canada Esso Fun Day, receiving on ice instruction, mental performance training, dryland training, and additional activities ensuring the next generation of the game can engage with Canada’s National Women’s Team.
Tourism Sarnia-Lambton Executive Director Mark Perrin said the Rivalry Game provides our area with some national exposure.
"It's hard to measure the impact that it will have with the game being broadcast on TSN, national television showcasing Sarnia," said Perrin. "We have some film crews that are going to be out in the area taking some scenes for between intermissions and that kind of thing. To be able to showcase Sarnia-Lambton as a whole and locally, we're talking about around $300,000 generated from a game like this. It definitely helps to keep people employed and keeps the hotels, restaurants, and retail stores all going. It's a great push right before the holidays."
As of Thursday, tickets were sold out but there was the potential of a few seated tickets becoming available prior to game time.
Fans are advised to contact the Sarnia Sting Box Office at 519-541-1717 for more ticket information.
Saturday's contest gets underway at 5 p.m., and everyone is encouraged to show their Canadian pride by wearing red and white.
Non-perishable food items and unwrapped toys are being accepted in support of the Inn of the Good Shepherd, the Native Friendship Centre, and Lion’s Heart Food Bank at Lambton College.
The seven game women's series also has stops in Kitchener, Saskatoon, Regina, Tempe, AZ, Los Angeles, CA, and St. Paul, MN.
Last year’s Rivalry Series ended in thrilling fashion, with Canada’s National Women’s Team winning four-straight games to win the series after dropping the opening three games.
