City of Sarnia crews are hard at work installing a new playground at Clearwater Arena.
The project got underway this week as part of $1.1 million in upgrades to be undertaken at the facility this year.
Other work being done this year, as part of the city's Clearwater Arena Plan, includes new rink boards and glass for the red rink, a spectator heater, dehumidification system, refrigeration plant upgrades and the redevelopment of ball diamond number one.
In 2025, the city put $1.8 million into the arena, including new rink boards, glass and netting for the blue rink, new rubber flooring throughout the facility and cosmetic improvements like painting.
The dressing rooms were also given a facelift with new flooring, fixture updates and shower upgrades, building envelope improvements, and HVAC alterations to accommodate future improvements.
Clearwater Arena has seen a transformation over the past few years, with the installation of a new library above the rink.
Sarnia is putting around $5.6 million into recreation spaces and facilities in 2026, including Bright’s Grove Library, Progressive Auto Sales Arena, Clearwater, Kenwick Park, Germain Park, Canatara Park, Norm Perry Park, Tecumseh Park and more.
