Car show expected to attract large crowd to Port Lambton

Classic vehicles will roll into Brander Park in Port Lambton this weekend as the Optimist Club of Sombra Township hosts its 17th annual car show.

The annual event will be held on Saturday, June 17 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Co-Chair Louise Reek said car enthusiasts can register at the event for $10 per vehicle. Participants will receive a commemorative dash plaque and will be eligible to receive prizes throughout the day.

Parked cars will face the St. Clair River, providing a nice scenic experience for participants and attendees.

"If you're familiar with the park, we have a beautiful splash pad and we have playsets for the kids... so it's a wonderful venue," Reek said.

Admission for spectators is free.

Children can also register for soapbox races as of 9 a.m.

Other activities throughout the day will include a craft sale and live music.

A food tent will be set up at the park, where the optimist club's "famous" peameal and cheese on a bun will be available.

Reek said they'll also be bringing in two food trucks this year. Beef Meatz Bun is from Wallaceburg and another truck will be serving up mini donuts.

Last year, Reek said about 200 people attended the event.

"It's just amazing, the crowd that we draw from different places -- mostly Ontario but we do have some come over to see us from Michigan, U.S.," Reek said. "Of course, with COVID, we had a couple of years [where] we had to stop everything but if we'd still been going, this would have been our 20th year."
