The Sarnia Sting is celebrating the contributions of the hockey club's president as he moves into an advisory role with the organization.
On Friday, the Sting announced Bill “Aber” Abercrombie is stepping away from his day-to-day responsibilities as team president while he transitions into his new position.
Abercrombie served as assistant coach from the time the Sting arrived in Sarnia in 1994 until 2002. Following a stint in Junior B, Abercrombie returned to the Sting in 2010 as the vice president of hockey operations before taking over as president in 2014.
Sting Owner David Legwand said Abercrombie was instrumental in a successful transition when we took over the team.
"His business and hockey experience, connections and passion for this community laid the building blocks for our growth over the past seven seasons and I can’t thank him enough for his dedication," said Legwand. “He has given this team, city and its sports community so much over his career and has positively impacted so many along the way. I want to congratulate Bill on his success and extend my appreciation for all he has done.”
The Sting said Abercrombie played pivotal roles in many of the club’s off-ice accomplishments, including the LED videoboard upgrade at the Hive in 2018, recent renovations to the luxury suite level and the recent completion of the Sting’s dressing room project.
