Lambton County Library is once again collecting Valentine's Day cards for elderly residents within the community to share messages of love and kindness.
Community Library Supervisor Greer Macdonell said the initiative started a few years ago but the community response has really picked up. Last year, over 1,800 valentines were collected from people of all ages.
"We actually have a lot of fun looking at them. Some people put a lot of work into these valentines and they're really beautiful and they have lovely messages," Macdonell said. "It's just very heartwarming to see what people write and they just want to share some love over Valentine's [Day]."
Macdonell said valentines are distributed to residents at the three county-operated long-term care homes and those who attend the county's four adult day programs.
Special deliveries are also made through the Mobile Library Service to those living in long-term care homes and retirement residences across the county.
"People are just so thrilled to receive them and like I said, some of them are really well done, they're lovely," Macdonell said.
Sarnia-Lambton residents who would like to create their own valentines can drop them off at a local library during open hours. Alternatively, residents can fill out provided cards at libraries during regular hours.
In order for valentines to be delivered on time, cards must be dropped off by January 31.
Details about library locations and hours of operation can be found on Lambton County Library's website.
