CNOY helps Habitat build homes in Sarnia-Lambton

Habitat For Humanity Sarnia-Lambton is getting geared up for its signature event of 2024.

Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) returns to Sarnia Bay on Saturday February 24, and residents can take part in a 2 km or 5 km walk.

The nation-wide campaign supports charitable organizations and allows participants to gain a better understanding of what it's like to be out on the streets during the winter months.

Event Coordinator Angela Kirkland said they're hoping to bring in at least $65,000 with help from the community.

"That will support the building of two homes on Grey Crescent in Sarnia this year," said Kirkland. "We reached our goal of $55,000 last year, supporting our Emma Street project."

Kirkland is hopeful the homes on Grey Crescent will be completed in time for the families to move in by Christmas 2024.

Those wishing to take part in the Coldest Night of the Year walk can register online at www.CNOY.org/habitatsarnia.

There's no registration fee, but if you help raise $150 you'll get a toque.

It starts and ends at the Polish Hall on Exmouth Street. Check in will be at 4 p.m. and the walk gets underway at 5 p.m.

River City Vineyard is also holding a walk through Mitton Village on the same night. They're hoping to raise $45,000.

Since 2011, the Coldest Night of the Year has raised over $75,000,000 across Canada in 190 Canadian communities – 100% of net proceeds stay local to support CNOY charity partners.
