A Sarnia officer arrested last month in connection with an off-duty incident, is facing additional charges.
Cst. Tim VanCowenberg was charged with assault, forcible confinement and mischief on February 18 after city police responded to an incident at a private residence.
Sarnia police said on Sunday, March 10, Cst. VanCowenberg was arrested and charged with breach of recognizance. He was released on an undertaking to his next scheduled court date.
Under the Police Services Act (PSA), Sarnia Police Chief Derek Davis has directed that an additional concurrent internal investigation be conducted regarding the new charge.
Cst. VanCowenberg remains assigned to non-operational duties, pending the outcome of these proceedings.
