Hundreds of people will learn about locally sourced "liquid gold" during this weekend's Maple Syrup Festival at A.W. Campbell Conservation Area.
The annual event, held in partnership between the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) and Alvinston Fire Association, will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
SCRCA Communications and Education Technician Emily Febrey said an important note for this year is the use of a shuttle service.
"A.W. Campbell Conservation Area and Alvinston in general has been hit hard by a couple of storms in 2023. So that's one of the biggest reasons we're asking people to park at the Brooke-Alvinston Inwood Community Centre Complex (at 3310 Walnut St.) because of parking constraints in the park and also some changes to our trails, where people used to drive up to the demonstration site, it has changed a bit. That's why we're bringing a shuttle in with our attendees to lessen the impact on our trails."
Those with questions about accessibility are encouraged to contact the SCRCA to make alternate arrangements.
Febrey said attendees can pay their $5 per person admission fee (cash only) at the community centre before boarding the shuttle. Pre-registration is not required and children five and under are free.
Family-friendly activities will be held at the site, including hands-on demonstrations and horse-drawn wagon rides between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
This year's event will also feature local organizations and vendors.
"We're also having a local brewery come and give out some free samples," Febrey said.
As part of the festival, Febrey said the Alvinston Fire Association will also host their annual breakfast at the community centre from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. if attendees would like a pancake meal before going to the conservation area.
A hot dog and drink meal will also be available to purchase.
