Man wanted by Sarnia police for ongoing scam

The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) is looking for a 65 year-old man for an ongoing scam within the city.

Bernd Adamek has allegedly approached strangers, indicating his wife has had some sort of alarming medical crisis that has left her in hospital and he needs gas money to get there.

Police said the incidents have occurred in public spaces and at the doors of private residences.

In a news release issued Wednesday, police said he can be persistent in nature and coercive for people to give him money.

Police allege that his claim of a wife in the hospital and the pretense of needing gas money are completely false.

Adamek is described as 6'0'' tall, 225 pounds, with white hair and is usually operating a silver Nissan Murano.

He is wanted on fraud under $5,000 and failure to comply with a probation order.

According to police, he's allegedly been defrauding residents for about one year and officers have previously laid charges in relation to similar fraudulent activities.

Anyone who has been approached by Adamek is advised to make a report online.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Sarnia Police at 519-344-8861 extension "0" or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
