Sarnia firefighters respond to desperate call for funds

After making a desperate plea for donations, the Sarnia-Lambton Suicide Prevention Committee has received a big financial boost.

The Sarnia Professional Firefighters Association donated $10,000 Thursday to the non-profit.

"Our donation will assist them in continuing their Suicide Prevention Committee," read a social media post.

Committee Co-chair Sharon Berry Ross recently told Sarnia News Today they were scrambling to come up with other funding sources after their application with the United Way was denied for the upcoming fiscal year.

The Sarnia-Lambton Suicide Prevention Committee has been around for over 20 years and offers resources and support to those experiencing a mental health crisis, or who have been touched by suicide.

If you or someone you know is experiencing feelings of suicide, contact the Lambton Mental Health Crisis Service at 1-800-307-4319 or the Kids Help Phone at 1-800-668-6868.
