Police seek suspect in commercial business thefts

The Sarnia Police Service is looking for a suspect in a series of commercial thefts that are believed to be connected.

Police say that, on June 8, 25 trailers were broken into and a 2019 Kenworth T680 truck was stolen from a complex in the area of Ube Drive.

Police said the truck was hooked up to two trailers which were also stolen from the marshalling yard at separate times. The truck in this instance was located in the Halton Region, on the west side of the Greater Toronto Area.

On June 9, an East Indian man wearing a white surgical mask was allegedly spotted near a trailer in the area of Telfer Road and Airport Road.

Police said the customs seal had been cut off and one of the pallets in the trailer had been opened.

The thief was allegedly seen by a driver of the company and fled the area in a white Mercedes sedan.

Between June 8 and June 10, a third incident occurred in which a white 2016 Volvo truck was stolen from a business on Prescott Drive. It was affixed with Ontario license plate BX89 131.

Police are urging operators of commercial motor vehicles to increase security measures around their facilities. Members of the public should call police if they see any suspicious behaviour.

Anyone with information regarding these thefts is asked to contact Detective Constable Zachary Douglas at (519) 344-8861 x 6247.
