Sarnia police report 'no significant incidents' on Canada Day

Canada Day celebrations appeared to go rather smoothly for the Sarnia Police Service.

Deputy Chief Julie Craddock said there were no significant incidents.

"Some lost and found property, [and two] kids that were missing but found very quickly and without incident," said Craddock.

She said five officers patrolled on bicycles and the new Auxiliary Policing Unit worked the event.

"Five auxiliary officers throughout the day and night, and our command team was supported by two sergeants and six additional officers. In total we had 18 members throughout the day and night. This does not include the front line staff not assigned to the event," Craddock added.

Deputy Chief Craddock said traffic after the waterfront fireworks was chaotic, but Centennial Park cleared within an hour of the show ending.

"The crowds were great and we were grateful the weather was perfect," she said.
