Lambton Heritage Museum exhibit celebrates Canada's game

Lambton Heritage Museum in Grand Bend is set to host a travelling exhibition from the Canadian Museum of History this month.

Hockey, which opens July 17 and runs until November 9, looks at how the sport has influenced our lives.

The two-dimensional display revisits game changing moments and players, Roch Carrier's classic story "The Hockey Sweater," and Shania Twain's NHL inspired stage outfits.

Curator/Supervisor Dana Thorne said you can also listen to audio archives and even record your own play-by-play calls, just like the legendary broadcaster Foster Hewitt did for Hockey Night in Canada.

Thorne said they've created a special exhibit to accompany the display after putting out a call for local hockey memorabilia.

“Thanks to generous contributions from our community, we’ve been able to include local artifacts, photographs and stories that highlight Lambton County's rich hockey history," Thorne said. "This adds a personal touch and connects our local stories to the broader national narrative, making the exhibition even more meaningful for our visitors.”

Admission is free for residents of Lambton County this year, in celebration of Lambton County's 175th anniversary.
