Warwick Township has declared a state of emergency because of "extensive flooding" caused by the heavy rainfall experienced earlier this week.
Torrential downpours fell across the province on Tuesday, which resulted in temporary closures along Highway 402 in the Watford area.
The township said all roads have since reopened, except for a couple that have been washed out. The affected roads include Arkona Road between Zion Line and Confederation Line, and Kingscourt Road between London Line and Confederation Line.
A statement issued by the municipality on Thursday said some residents reported having as much as eight inches of rain over a two-day period.
"This is the second significant rainfall event in Warwick in 11 months resulting in the municipality declaring a state of emergency," said Mayor Todd Case. " Many residents just finished cleanup of the aftermath of last August’s storm, only to have their homes flooded again. Financial losses will be substantial."
A state of emergency due to significant flooding was issued last year as well.
Mayor Case and Councillor Wayne Morris emphasized the urgent need for infrastructure funding when MPP Steven Pinsonneault visited the area on Tuesday to see the damage first-hand.
