Teams of three to six people will compete against each other, to see who can push an empty school bus the fastest
It's the annual 'Push the Bus' at the Sarnia-Lambton YMCA Jerry McCaw Family Centre on Friday, July 26.
General Manager Paul Skuza said money raised will help send kids to summer camp.
"The money does stay in our community and helps low income families have care for their kids and give kids the opportunity to have fun," said Skuza.
He said they're hoping to collect $20,000 this year to send 100 area kids to camp.
Skuza said time at summer camp helps improve self-esteem, peer relationships, physical skills, leadership abilities, environmental awareness and more.
"We see them having fun and laughing but the parents will actually come and tell us that their child has really grown socially, they're active so they're just happier, they're making friendships and they're just having a really good time being kids," said Skuza. "Swimming in the pool, playing sports, doing arts and crafts, just being creative, so the benefits of camp we've seen them first hand but the parents really do reassure us that it's important."
Skuza said this year they will have two buses rolling and teams will compete in tournament style-heats.
"We have some buses in our parking lot at the YMCA and we are pushing them with local teams from partners in the community, local businesses, the firefighters, EMS, teachers will all be out there just having some fun," he said. "It's a friendly competition pushing some buses to try and send kids to camp."
The event is on from noon until 2 p.m. at the YMCA on Finch Drive.
