Captain Kidd Days to anchor in Corunna

A four-day pirate themed event will be returning to Corunna this weekend for its 39th year.

Captain Kidd Days starts Thursday and will run until Sunday.

Throughout the four days there will be live music, a movie night, parade, talent show, and a kids zone.

Chairperson Geoff Dale said every year organizers try to improve the kids zone.

"We're partnering with Valley Axe for jelly ball which is, paintball with little bags of jelly rather than paintballs. They're also doing a foam party," he said.

On Sunday afternoon, there will also be outdoor wrestling.

According to Dale, around 4,000 to 5,000 people show up to the event.

He said the money raised throughout the four days goes to a variety of initiatives.

"Last year we gave to 16 different organizations. We gave to local sports teams, mental health initiatives like Canadian Mental Health Association, St. Clair Child and Youth, and Rebound," Dale said.

The events kick off with an outdoor movie night Thursday at 7 p.m.

Captain Kidd will arrive at Ferry Dock Hill at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, the events start at 11 a.m. and on Sunday it starts at 9 a.m.

Admission to the kids zone is $5 or $10 for a family of three or more and the wrestling show is $5.

Evening gate entry is $10.

Dale credited the sponsors for helping make the event a success.

"That's why we can do things for five bucks a day for a family so very thankful to them and the committee that puts in all the work," he said.
