Deputy Police Chief Julie Craddock is preparing for a new role.
The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) deputy chief has been appointed as the new deputy chief of the Anishinabek Police Service (APS).
Craddock has served as deputy chief with Sarnia police since March of 2023, becoming the first woman to serve in the position.
In a news release announcing her departure, Craddock said as a strong advocate for creating inclusive and supportive work environments, she is thankful to the community and all members of the SPS for both welcoming and supporting her into the organization.
“I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to the Sarnia Police Services Board, Chief Derek Davis, and members of the Sarnia Police Service for their support as I transition to a new role as Deputy Chief with the Anishinabek Police Service," said Craddock. "This is an unexpected opportunity to serve within a First Nations Police Service and to fulfill a lifelong personal connection to indigenous policing. Although my time with the SPS was not as long as I had planned, I believe much has been accomplished over the last two years under the visionary leadership of Chief Davis. Leaving the Sarnia Police Service is one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make throughout my professional career. However I know that through our shared vision of community safety and well-being we will continue to be connected through our service to the citizens of Ontario."
Sarnia Police Chief Derek Davis said her contributions to our community and to the Sarnia Police Service were substantial, and she will be missed.
“Deputy Chief Julie Craddock has proven to be an exceptional and influential police leader at local, provincial, and international levels. I congratulate her on her new role, and know that she will be an asset to Chief Jeff Skye, APS, and First Nations policing in Ontario," said Davis.
Craddock started her policing career in 1994 as a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in northern Ontario.
She will begin her new role on September 3, 2024.
In the interim, Inspector Mike Van Sickle has been appointed Acting Deputy Chief effective August 13, 2024.
